Uretek offers a number of services to canal owners. These include:

  • Fast fill of cracks and erosion pipes
  • Fill of interstatial spaces behind liners
  • Repair of liner cracks

Right: Canal lining which gets undermined, such the lining seen here, can be treated with Uretek's Benefil product to re-establish their position and to reduce the possibility of the canal wall being washed away entirely.
Left: Piping, or underground erosion can be corrected before it causes a total breakdown of the canal wall, using Uretek's Benefil void filling product.

Uretek uses Benefil in
much of its work with

Case Histories

British Waterways
c/o Apex Construction

Foam injection of interstitial space between culvert and liner, to prevent water loss from the canal.

The foam was modified for this project, so that its gelling time was reduced, enabling the foam to go off before being flushed out by the water pressure.

The foaming unit was taken across the canal, operating at a distance of 30 metres from the compressor. See Link

Basingstoke Canal Authority

The Walls of Lock 20 on the Basingstoke Canal were leaking badly, causing inconvenience to boaters and costing the canal authority money in lost water.

GroundSafe loaded the foaming system onto a canal boat moved 7 locks down to Lock 20, inaccessible by other routes.

GroundSafe modified Uretek's Benefil RG30 foam reducing its gelling time, then injected behind the lock wall using bespoke injection needles. After locating a series of voids and foaming back to the point of ingress, the leak was completely staunched. See Link

(Note: GroundSafe applications have been taken over by www.benefil.co.uk and are now branded under the name Benefil®)
